JOURNAL II
MAYA POON
Set among the vibrant landscapes of Oaxaca, artist and creative Maya Poon invites us into her world, one where art, life, and spirit flow as one. Maya reflects on what it means to live and create with intention, how nature fuels her inner world, and the quiet wisdom that comes from honoring traditional craft.
Rooted in curiosity and deep connection, her words echo the essence of HANNAH: slow, soulful, and touched by the beauty of the place. From her intuitive creative process to her reflections on what it means to feel at home, this is a portrait of a woman living in poetic alignment with the world around her.

Living in Oaxaca, a place so rich in craft and tradition, how has the landscape, culture, and energy of the region shaped your artistic vision?
Oaxaca has played a very important role in my path, she has shown me how to live a life of coherency – where your work, your art, your life are one. Not separate categories, but one path in unity, always honoring the same values and direction.

Your work often feels deeply intertwined with nature. How does the environment around you influence your creative process, and how do you translate that connection into your art?
Nature to me is – the home to my spirit and creativity. I love to connect to her through my different emotions – playfulness, sadness, stillness. I love to imagine her through our different human emotions.

At HANNAH we value craftsmanship, slow processes, and intentional design. Your work also carries a meditative, organic quality. How do you approach creativity in a way that feels intuitive and mindful?
Creativity for me is always intuitive and mindful. When one is at peace, creativity flows out of you as a river flows to the ocean. It is natural and organic, at times, yes, challenging, but that’s only while you uncover your true nature. I believe that creativity is the strongest and truest when it is born out of the desire to explore your own inner realms – let yourself bloom into the experience.

The HANNAH woman is always seeking beauty and meaning in the world around her. How do you define ‘home’—is it a place, a feeling, or something else entirely?
Home is wherever you feel safe.
